Education
A patient must be effectively informed about the management of their disease as well as the potential side effects of any interventions. Knowledge reduces anxiety, enhances self-esteem, increases satisfaction with care, improves pain control, and reduces disruption in daily functioning.
The research has revealed that “the more clearly a disease is understood, the more likely it is that an individual will be comfortable with their care and adhere to necessary regimens.”
Learning about their condition means these individuals have the knowledge to undertake their treatments with confidence and are more likely to do so safely outside a medical facility.
Team work
An efficient and team-based workflow benefits the hospital and its patients. Hospitals can engage the whole staff regularly by discussing everyone’s role in caring for patients. When everyone—embraces their role as a part of the care team, patient engagement improves.
Team members are more likely to tune into even casual comments from a patient like, “I’m so tired of taking that pill,” a clue that there could be a problem. A brief talk with the patient may help prevent non-compliance down the road.
AI
Having systems in place to monitor and track patient compliance, proactively communicate and document interactions can save care givers a lot of time and costs while improving patient outcomes.
Health providers should look for reporting tools that provide real-time access to patient profiles and visibility into trends over time. Some provider systems also have the capability to highlight non-adherent patients for prompt interaction. The key is to implement tools and or processes to allow health providers to more effectively target patients that need the most care.

Understanding the various compliance tools available and how they are positioned to meet an individual patient’s preferences can have a measurable impact on adherence. Some patients may embrace a new app for their smartphone, while others might find a simple daily pill box to be just right. Making it easy by helping them along the way, encourages adherence and keeps them on course.
